Belgard Driveway & Pavers: The Santa Clarita Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Belgard driveway pavers and paver systems across Santa Clarita, with full driveway installations typically running $7,000 to $18,000 depending on square footage, paver line, base depth, and whether we’re repairing sections or replacing the whole run. Most paver failures we see here aren’t the pavers themselves, they’re the base underneath shifting from our clay-heavy soil and summer heat cycles. You’ll usually notice it as a paver that sits proud of its neighbors, a low spot that holds water after rain, or a wobble when you step on it.

We’re an independent remodeling contractor, not a Belgard dealer or affiliate, so we match what’s already in your driveway and tell you straight if the failing piece is worth saving or if the base needs work first.
Which Belgard Models This Applies To

If your driveway has pavers, the odds are high it’s a Belgard product. They own a significant share of the Santa Clarita market, and their three most common lines here are Dublin Cobble, Catalina Slate, and Mega Arbel. Dublin Cobble is the one we see on older homes in Valencia and Saugus, it has a tumbled edge and comes in modular units. Catalina Slate is flatter and cleaner, popular in newer Stevenson Ranch builds. Mega Arbel is the two-piece system that looks like random flagstone but interlocks on a repeating grid.
The compatibility gotcha most owners hit: Belgard color batches shift between production runs. A Dublin Cobble in “Charcoal” poured in 2014 will not match a 2024 Charcoal exactly. If we’re patching a section, we pull pavers from a shaded or less visible area and use those for the repair, then backfill the hidden zone with new stock. That way your visible driveway stays uniform. For aftermarket equivalents, we mostly recommend staying with the genuine Belgard piece when it’s a color-match concern. For structural repairs under the surface, aftermarket base materials and edge restraints work fine and save real money.

Signs Your Belgard Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Wobbling or rocking pavers underfoot. The bedding sand has washed out or settled. This is almost always a base-compaction issue, not a paver problem. Left alone, that paver cracks.
- Low spots holding water after rain. Santa Clarita rarely gets rain, but when it does, standing puddles on your driveway tell you the sub-base has a void. The water that sits also works sand out from joints, accelerating the failure.
- Edge pavers drifting outward. The edge restraint, a plastic or concrete border that holds the perimeter, has failed. Once edges move, the entire field loses interlock and starts spreading.
- Cracks that run in a straight line across multiple pavers. That’s a settlement line, usually from an old trench that wasn’t compacted in lifts. The pavers telegraph exactly what’s happening underneath them.
- Faded color and rough surface texture. Belgard pavers have a face-mix top layer. Once that wears through, you see the coarser concrete body underneath. It’s cosmetic at first, but the face layer is also what resists stain absorption.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

A full Belgard paver driveway in Santa Clarita runs $7,000 to $18,000 installed. A repair, meaning we cut out the failed section, recompact the base, and re-lay existing or new pavers, typically falls between $1,500 and $5,000 depending on square footage and whether we need to source matching material. Here’s how those numbers break down:
- Base excavation and compaction: $3 to $6 per square foot. This is the part no one sees and the part that determines whether the driveway lasts 5 years or 25.
- Bedding sand and paver laying: $4 to $8 per square foot.
- Belgard pavers themselves: $4 to $9 per square foot at the Santa Clarita supply yards, depending on line and depth. Dublin Cobble and Catalina Slate run closer to $5 to $7; Mega Arbel as a two-piece system runs a bit higher.
- Edge restraints, joint sand, and sealer: $1.50 to $3 per square foot combined.
Every repair or replacement from us includes a written line-item price before the first paver is pulled, the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing, and photo updates from Luca’s team before and after. No change orders at the door.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely pop out a single cracked paver with a flat bar and check what’s underneath. If the sand is gone and the base looks like loose dirt, that’s your answer and it’s a small job to fix. What you shouldn’t do is recompact a base with a hand tamper and expect it to hold. Hand tamping gets you maybe 60% of the density a plate compactor delivers, and on Santa Clarita clay with our dry-season shrinkage, that means the paver sinks again within a year. You also shouldn’t run a plate compactor over existing pavers without knowing the bedding depth and whether the pavers have a face-mix top that will chip. We’ve fixed enough DIY compaction jobs in Canyon Country to know the sequence matters more than the effort.
If the failure is more than two or three pavers, or you see a straight-line crack, call us at (661) 592-1977. The estimate is free and we’ll tell you if it’s a pavers job or a base job before you spend a dollar.
FAQs

A properly installed Belgard driveway with a compacted aggregate base lasts 20 to 30 years in our climate. The pavers rarely fail, the base does. Driveways we rebuild with proper lift-compacted base consistently outlast the original installs we tear out.
Yes, we do section repairs regularly. We cut out the failed area, recompact the base below it, and re-lay the pavers. Color matching is handled by pulling existing pavers from a less visible area and using new stock in the hidden zone. Call (661) 592-1977 and we’ll take a look.
A section repair takes one day for most jobs. A full driveway replacement takes 3 to 5 working days depending on square footage and access. You get a written schedule and photo updates as we go, so there’s no guessing when the crew shows up or when they finish.
We don’t warehouse pallets of pavers, but we pull from Santa Clarita supply yards that stock Belgard’s current lines, usually same-week. For older color batches, we source through salvage and closeout channels or use the hidden-zone swap method described above. Either way, you’ll know the material cost in writing before we start.
