Schluter Driveway & Pavers: The Santa Clarita Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Schluter-compatible driveway and paver systems throughout Santa Clarita, with most full driveway replacements running $5,000 to $14,000 installed and paver driveways landing between $7,000 and $18,000 depending on square footage. Most owners discover a problem the same way: a paver that’s sunk half an inch in one corner, a drain channel that’s pulling away from the garage slab, or water pooling where it never used to. We’ve seen all of it across Valencia, Saugus, and Canyon Country, and the fix usually starts with identifying exactly which Schluter profile or edge component failed before the surface above it started moving.

Before we get into models and pricing, one thing up front: Sawyer Remodel Santa Clarita is an independent contractor, not affiliated with Schluter. We install their products because they hold up in Southern California sun and clay soil better than most, but you’re dealing with us directly, not a corporate warranty department.
Which Schluter Models This Applies To

Schluter’s exterior line for driveways and paver transitions breaks into a few families: Schluter-BARA edge profiles for paver terminations, Schluter-DECO surface drainage channels, Schluter-TROBA drainage mats under pavers, and Schluter-DITRA-DRAIN where a driveway meets a foundation or retaining wall. If you’re holding a piece of anodized aluminum or stainless trim with a perforated anchoring leg, you’re likely looking at BARA or DECO, and the profile height stamped on the leg (usually 4mm to 12mm) tells us what thickness of paver or slab it was designed to catch.
The compatibility gotcha we run into constantly in Santa Clarita: BARA profiles made for interior tile transitions are not the same as the exterior-rated versions. The exterior pieces carry a thicker anchoring flange and a different alloy to handle UV exposure and temperature swings from 35°F winter mornings to 110°F August afternoons. An interior profile installed outside will corrode and delaminate within two or three seasons. We match the stamped part number against the original Schluter spec sheet, then verify the profile height against your actual paver thickness before ordering anything. For homeowners, OEM Schluter is worth the premium on visible edge profiles; for buried drainage mat, a quality aftermarket equivalent performs identically at about 60% of the cost, and we’ll tell you which is which before you spend a dollar.

Signs Your Schluter Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Edge profile lifting or curling away from the paver edge. This almost always means the anchoring leg has lost its mechanical bond to the setting bed, usually because freeze-thaw cycles in Stevenson Ranch or sand washout under the profile created movement. Left alone, the exposed edge becomes a trip hazard and the pavers start shifting into the gap.
- Water pooling against the garage slab after rain. A failing or undersized Schluter drainage channel can’t move water fast enough during Santa Clarita’s occasional downpours, and water sits against the concrete. Over time that water wicks under the slab edge and accelerates erosion of the paver base.
- Pavers sinking in one corner while the rest stay level. This points to a drainage mat or base failure underneath, not the pavers themselves. Schluter mats fail when the underlying soil shifts, which happens regularly in Canyon Country’s expansive clay.
- Visible corrosion or white oxidation on an aluminum profile. It was either an interior-spec piece installed outside, or the anodized coating was scratched during installation and moisture got under it. Either way, it’s spreading, not stopping.
- Gravel or sand washing out from under the paver edge every time it rains. The edge restraint has failed, which is often the Schluter profile losing its grip on the setting bed. Each rain event takes more base material with it, and the paver field gets less stable every month.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Schluter-specific driveway and paver work in Santa Clarita, here’s what we quote by scope:
- Edge profile replacement (BARA or similar, single section): $400 to $1,800 installed, depending on linear footage and whether we’re resetting adjacent pavers
- Drainage channel replacement (DECO or DITRA-DRAIN): $600 to $2,500 installed, depending on channel length and whether the surrounding concrete or paver edge needs cutting back
- Full paver driveway with Schluter drainage and edge profiles: $7,000 to $18,000 installed, based on square footage, paver type, and base conditions
- Full driveway replacement (concrete with Schluter transitions): $5,000 to $14,000 installed
Every quote comes with the part cost, labor, base prep, and haul-off listed as separate line items. You’ll know what the Schluter profile costs versus what the labor costs. Luca Romano runs every estimate personally, and the number we put in writing is the number you pay. No change orders halfway through because we “discovered” something we should have seen on day one. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers our installation work: if a profile pulls loose or a paver shifts within a year, we’re back to fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can inspect your own driveway safely. Look at the edge profiles, check for pooling, mark any sunken pavers with chalk, and snap photos. That information helps us quote the job accurately over the phone before we even dispatch a truck. What we don’t recommend is pulling up a Schluter drainage channel or chiseling out an embedded edge profile yourself. The profiles are set into mortar beds that are structurally tied to the paver base, and prying one loose without cutting the adjacent material properly fractures the setting bed and doubles the repair area. You’ll also void any warranty path on the remaining Schluter components. If it’s a loose paver you can lift and reset by hand, go ahead. If it’s a profile or channel, call (661) 592-1977 and we’ll handle it.
FAQs

Exterior-rated Schluter aluminum profiles typically last 15 to 25 years in Santa Clarita’s climate, while drainage mats and channels can go 20 to 30 years if the base underneath stays stable. The weak point is almost never the Schluter product itself. It’s the soil movement beneath it or an installation error from the original contractor. When we see a failed profile at year eight, the problem was usually a thin setting bed or missing edge restraint, not the metal. Call (661) 592-1977 for a free inspection if you suspect your system is aging out early.
If the profile is still straight and the corrosion is minor, we can often re-anchor it with a fresh setting bed and mechanical fasteners. If the profile is bent, heavily oxidized, or the anchoring leg has torn, replacement is the only option that holds. We’ll tell you which path makes sense for your specific section, and we won’t sell you a replacement when a repair will last. Estimates are free at (661) 592-1977.
A single edge profile replacement is a half-day job. A drainage channel replacement takes one full day. A full paver driveway with Schluter drainage and edge profiles runs three to five days depending on square footage and whether we’re reusing existing base material or rebuilding it. Before work starts, you’ll have a written schedule and a written price, and we show up when we say we will.
We carry the most common BARA profile heights and DECO channel widths on our service trucks in Santa Clarita, along with setting materials and base aggregate. If your part is an uncommon size or a special-order finish, we source it directly from our Schluter distributor, usually within two to three business days. For KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone interior projects, we also keep standard profile inventory in stock. Call (661) 592-1977 with your part number and we’ll confirm availability in minutes.
