KraftMaid Kitchen Remodeling: The Santa Clarita Owner’s Guide
KraftMaid kitchen remodeling in Santa Clarita typically runs $14,000 to $45,000 for a full kitchen, and we can usually start within two to three weeks of your written estimate. If you’re reading this, you probably have a KraftMaid cabinet with a sagging drawer, a hinge that’s stripped out of the face frame, or a door that won’t close square anymore. Maybe the finish is peeling on a cabinet near the dishwasher. That’s the failure pattern we see most in Santa Clarita: steam and heat cycles breaking down the clear coat first, then the hardware follows.

We’re Sawyer Remodel Santa Clarita, and we work on KraftMaid kitchens regularly. We’re an independent remodeling contractor, not affiliated with KraftMaid, but we know their cabinet lines well enough to match parts, finishes, and hardware without guesswork. Luca Romano owns the shop, and he’s been pulling KraftMaid cabinets apart and putting them back together across Valencia, Canyon Country, and Saugus for years.
Which KraftMaid Models This Applies To

KraftMaid has three cabinet construction lines that show up in Santa Clarita homes, and each one takes different parts. The Vantage line is all-plywood construction with soft-close hinges and full-extension drawer glides as standard. The Venicia line comes from their semi-custom shop, with dovetailed drawers and more finish options. The standard all-wood line is what most tract homes in Valencia and Stevenson Ranch got in the mid-2000s, and that’s where we see the most part failures today.
The gotcha: KraftMaid changed their hinge boring pattern in 2012. Cabinets built before that year use a 35mm cup hinge with a 1/2-inch overlay. Cabinets built after use a 1-1/4-inch overlay as standard. If you order the wrong overlay, the door sits too far in or too far out, and you’ll chase the adjustment for an hour before realizing it’s the wrong hinge. Measure your current hinge cup diameter and overlay before ordering anything.
For OEM versus aftermarket: KraftMaid hinges and drawer glides are typically made by Blum or Grass, and you can often buy the exact same hardware directly from those manufacturers for less than the KraftMaid-branded version. We stock both on the truck. Face frames, doors, and drawer boxes should stay OEM or custom-matched, because the finish color and wood species have to match what’s already in your kitchen.

Signs Your KraftMaid Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Soft-close doors slam shut. The damping mechanism inside the hinge wears out. KraftMaid’s older Blum Clip hinges last roughly 10 to 15 years of daily use before the soft-close feature gives out. The hinge still holds the door on, but it closes like a cheap cabinet.
- Drawer faces tilt forward or rub the cabinet face. This is almost always a worn drawer glide, and with KraftMaid’s under-mount slides, it means the nylon wheel inside the glide has flattened. Repositioning the drawer doesn’t fix it; the glide needs replacement.
- Hinge screws pull out of the face frame. Santa Clarita’s dry summers shrink the maple and birch face frames by a few millimeters, and after a few seasons, the screw holes oval out. We repair this with wood dowels and glue, then re-drill, rather than just filling with toothpicks and hoping.
- Finish peeling or cloudy near the dishwasher or sink base. Steam from the dishwasher vent attacks the catalyzed varnish finish on KraftMaid’s lower cabinets. Once it starts, it spreads. We’ve matched and refinished individual doors in Valencia kitchens where the rest of the cabinet boxes were still solid.
- Doors or drawer fronts out of square (showing light at one corner). KraftMaid doors are five-piece construction, and the center panel floats. Over time, the corner joints can shift, especially on cabinets that get direct afternoon sun from west-facing windows. Some doors can be re-squared with new joinery; others are cheaper to replace than repair.

Santa Clarita pricing for KraftMaid kitchen remodeling breaks down like this:
- Full kitchen remodel (KraftMaid cabinets, countertops, backsplash, labor): $14,000 – $45,000
- Cabinet installation only (new KraftMaid cabinets, existing layout): $4,000 – $13,000
- Countertop installation (including KraftMaid cabinet modification): $2,000 – $6,500
- Kitchen island installation: $3,000 – $10,000
- Backsplash installation: $800 – $2,500
Every estimate we write in Santa Clarita includes the part cost, labor, and haul-away of the old pieces as separate line items. You see the number before you approve it, and that number is the number you pay. The Relay Visibility Guarantee applies here: written price before work starts, live arrival time, and photo updates as the job moves. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the work for a full year after we finish. If something isn’t right, we come back and make it right, no argument.
What drives the price range? Cabinet configuration (a galley kitchen with 10 boxes costs less than a 28-box kitchen with a peninsula), whether you’re replacing just the failed parts or the whole cabinet run, and whether the countertop has to come off to access damaged cabinet boxes. KraftMaid’s semi-custom lines also cost more than their stock all-wood line.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: whether the hinge screw holes are stripped (back out the screw and look), whether the drawer glide is visibly worn (pull the drawer all the way out and look for flat spots on the nylon wheels), and whether the cabinet box itself is square (check with a level). Cabinet doors, hinges, and glides are low-risk to swap if you’ve done this before and have the right overlay measurement.
Where DIY goes sideways is when a face frame is cracked, a cabinet box is pulling off the wall, or the finish needs matching to existing doors. Matching a 10-year-old KraftMaid finish by eye is a job for someone who has done it a hundred times. If you’re halfway through and stuck, or if you just want it done right the first time, call (661) 592-1977 and we’ll come out and take a look.
FAQs

How long do KraftMaid cabinets last in Santa Clarita? KraftMaid cabinet boxes typically last 20 to 30 years in Santa Clarita’s climate, but hinges and drawer glides usually need attention around the 10 to 15 year mark. The finish on lower cabinets near steamy appliances can fail sooner, especially in kitchens without good venting. Call (661) 592-1977 if your cabinets are showing wear and you want an honest assessment.
Can you repair a single KraftMaid door instead of replacing the whole kitchen? Yes, in most cases we can repair or refinish a single door, drawer front, or hinge set without touching the rest of your kitchen. We’ve matched KraftMaid finishes on kitchens in Canyon Country and Saugus where replacing the whole run would have been overkill. Call (661) 592-1977 and we’ll tell you if a repair makes sense.
How long does a KraftMaid kitchen remodel take in Santa Clarita? A full KraftMaid kitchen remodel in Santa Clarita usually takes 4 to 8 weeks depending on the scope, with cabinet installation alone typically running 2 to 5 days. The cabinet order itself can take 2 to 4 weeks if you’re going with semi-custom KraftMaid. The timeline goes in your written estimate, so you know before we start.
Do you stock KraftMaid parts, or do you have to order them? We stock common Blum and Grass hinges, drawer glides, and soft-close dampers on the truck, so a lot of repairs in Santa Clarita can happen the same visit. KraftMaid-specific doors, face frames, and finish-matched panels usually have to be ordered and that takes 2 to 4 weeks. Call (661) 592-1977 and we’ll check what we have right now.
Want a real number for your KraftMaid kitchen? Call (661) 592-1977 and schedule a free estimate. We’ll walk the kitchen, figure out exactly what’s failing, and hand you a written price before any work starts. The work tells the story. We just show up and do it right.
